Yoga Journeys - Ubud Jungle Edition 2024 Information

A week of Yoga, Culture & Connection at Amori Villas

Retreat Venue: Amori Villas

We’ve chosen to continue our partnership with Amori Villas, Ubud which was created with love and passion by Perth couple Rick & Peta. Amori Villas is architecturally impressive and provides all the comfort and luxury you want. Marble bathrooms; spacious bedrooms; infinity pool; vaulted ceilings; eco yoga pavilion; cool spa treatment rooms; organic kitchen gardens and lush tropical landscapes. Their guests say the photos don’t do it justice.

Amori is nestled beside one of the island’s sacred rivers and is surrounded by rice terraces, and is only ten minutes from the centre of Ubud. The magical location provides special experiences. A cooling valley breeze welcomes you back from a successful shopping or cafe trip in Ubud. You’ll experience Balinese culture and connect to the local Banjar (neighbourhood) with a guided optional village walk, or donning a sarong to attend a local temple ceremony. Relax with the sounds and views of the sacred Petanu River, the nature and the birdlife. Enjoy delicious food and your drink of choice in their open kitchen.

And with all of this, accept the loving, caring, personal service from their local staff. This is all part of the Amori Experience. Ubud means medicine or healing. Yoga, massage and spa treatments are part of Balinese life and are a skill and art-form passed down through the generations. Imagine your day starting with yoga at Amori’s bamboo pavilion and finishing with a relaxing massage and herbal body wrap or scrub in an exotic Balinese setting.

Once you’ve booked your flight, please let us know so we can help organise an airport pick up. Where possible, we will organise your pick up with other students arriving at similar times. If you decide to come earlier and stay in Kuta or Legian, please let us know and we will organise for a car to stop and pick you up on the way.

The international airport for Bali is Ngurah Rai International Airport. All students need to fly to Denpasar (DPS).

Visas

Australian Nationals require a current passport with six months validity for entry into Bali. A 30 day visa is issued automatically upon entry for approximately A$50. This is a small fee for your visa at the airport. If you are coming from a different country, please check what visas you are eligible for.

Travel Insurance

You are responsible for your travel insurance. We recommend you get comprehensive travel insurance for peace of mind.

COVID

Australian Nationals must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to travelling to Indonesia to enter Bali, without the need to quarantine. You will be required to show proof of your International Covid Certificate. You are not required to show a negative Covid test. The wearing of masks is compulsory on all flights and in taxis. Immune System

There are many ways to naturally support your immune system in Bali, besides eating from the clean organic restaurant on site.

Naturopaths recommend:

  • Jamu, coconut water and slippery elm powder in the case of diarrhoea

  • Jamu is traditional Indonesian medicine, predominantly made from natural ingredients including roots, bark, flowers, seeds, leaves and fruits. The most common one to boost the immune system is made of turmeric, lime and ginger.

  • Fresh juices

  • SB flora 3ctive (shelf stable probiotic that stops the bad bacteria from adhering to the intestinal tract)

“Amori Villas and their super attentive and caring staff is one of those five star retreat locations to dream about. My daughter and I remained very happy residents in our luxurious villa. Mars and Renee went above and beyond what we were expecting from the yoga, special events and touring. Every in house and out of house activity was meticulously organised. Time to do our own thing was well balanced with the Villas' drivers always on call. I flew home recharged and strong. Highly recommended.”

More About the Venue

  • Bottled water. Please bring your own water bottle, to reduce plastic waste. We have glass bottles in the rooms for you to fill the room glasses. Amori supplies water by the glass in the restaurant/bar, from the large Aqua bottle. We also have a large spring water dispenser in the spa.

  • Opening ceremony. The Opening ceremony is a prayer to the Universe, giving thanks for the retreat and asking that it be blessed. It also asks for the hearts and minds of all participants to be opened, so we can absorb all of the positive energy during retreat.

  • Yoga and meditation spaces. Amori’s Yoga Shala is lower in the valley, which is quieter and cooler. It receives a gentle breeze from the valley. There are also 2 ceiling fans, if needed.

  • Guest Tab. Each guest will have their own individual bill for extras, massages, drinks etc.

  • Mosquitos. Amori does everything they can to keep mosquitos away, including regular fogging of the gardens. They light mosquito coils outside every room and in the restaurant at dusk every night. They supply mosquito repellent lotion in every bathroom.

  • Sunrise and Sunset. Sunrise is 5.55am and sunset is 6.15pm.

  • Transport into Ubud. Available at agreed times. Amori has 3 cars, which can take 7 passengers each. It takes 15 minutes from Amori to the centre of Ubud. Whilst they can arrange return journeys, it usually works better for guests to take a taxi back to Amori, so they aren’t restricted by time or don’t have to walk to the designated pickup spot. The average cost of a taxi ride is AUD$7-10.

  • Airport transfers. Amori will personally collect every person from the airport and drive them to Amori. Transfers to and from are included.

  • Butler Service. Amori’s butlers are there to do or arrange anything and everything you want, including your ironing and additional spa treatment bookings.

Massage & Other Spa Treatments

You receive one complimentary massage. We’ll endeavour to schedule everyone for a massage in the first few days of the retreat, should you wish to have more treatments throughout the week. Bookings for additional spa treatments can be made with the butler, and the price will be added to your Individual Room bill, payable at the end of your stay. Massage appointments can be made between 7.30am and 9pm each day. Should you wish to pre book your massages appointments, let us know.

The path of self-inquiry has invited Mars to participate in vipassana meditations, attend satsangs with her spiritual teachers and explore Indian mantra and the harmonium. Mars has also journeyed with Shamanic plant medicines to dive deeper into spirit. A world traveller, Mars embraces an alternative, sustainable and compassionate lifestyle. She’s lived in big cities, off grid on tropical islands, in remote mountain villages and within retreat communities.

In 2014, Mars found her way and in love with the transformative nature of Yoga Retreats during volunteering roles at some of the best retreat centres in Italy and Thailand. After spending some years delivering classes within the yoga studio environment, she decided to specialise in Yoga Retreat Facilitation when she was invited to be a Resident Retreat Teacher and Massage Therapist at the world renowned, Vale de Moses Yoga Retreat in Portugal from 2017 to 2019. This experience helped her to become a compassionate and generous facilitator for healing and growth. Since returning home to Australia back in 2020, Mars is mainly in the studio, but has been lucky enough to share her love for retreats during Shala Yoga’s Bali Retreats, as well as other weekend retreats in the South West.

Renee Carlson

Renée was born in Bunbury, however she lived in Sydney and abroad for 15 years. Renée’s yoga journey began in Bondi Beach where she completed her 200hr training and developed her yoga practice whilst working as a fashion buyer and product developer. Her classes are strong, creative and intelligently sequenced. Created to engage, refine and inspire, they are set to a background of curated music. She likes students to leave class feeling informed, empowered and rejuvenated. A passionate and dedicated teacher, Renée gives her all to her students. She feels honoured and blessed to take the knowledge learned from her teachers and mentors. When she isn’t teaching and empowering others, you’ll likely find Renée working on her gift business Postale and coordinating local arts events.
